Thawing Instruction for Frozen Oyster

Defrost frozen oyster in its closed shell in a plastic container or bag in the chiller section of the refrigerator at (5-10°C) for 8-12 hours. The time required for defrosting will vary from 8-12 hours depending on the refrigerator. Defrost frozen oysters in their closed shell with a sufficient amount of cold clean freshwater (water temp at 20°C, and about 4 times the volume of the oysters) for 30-40 minutes.

 

Simple Step to Open Oyster

Step 1:

After defrosting completely, hold the oyster by hand, with the flat shell up.

Step 2:

Defrosted oyster’s shell will have a gap between its lid and bottom shell insert a table knife or any small knife, and cut the muscle attached to the lid.

Step 3:

Pry the lid shell open with the knife and remove it.

Step 4:

Cut the muscle attached to the bottom part of the shell to fully detach the oyster.

 

How To Cook?

Barbeque half shell oyster is one of the easy methods to make it delicious and it is popular among Malaysians. The steps are simple as follow:

 

Method 1: Raw

Rinse and thaw the oysters under running water for approximately 3-5 mins. Pry open the shell by using a knife. Serve and enjoy.

 

Method 2: Barbeque (BBQ)

Grill frozen oysters for 8 to 12 minutes at 230°C. When the meat has softened and become pliable, drizzle with sauce.

 

Method 3: Oven

Preheat the oven to 230°C and cook the frozen oysters for 8-12 minutes on a bed of rock salt. Before putting frozen oysters in the oven, coat them with sauce.
